Connected-device projects work when there is a specific decision waiting on the data: a reading that triggers maintenance before equipment fails, a tank level that schedules a delivery, a temperature log that satisfies a compliance requirement. Start from the decision and the rest of the design follows. They stall when the goal is to collect data first and find a use later, which produces dashboards nobody opens and a recurring connectivity bill. The unglamorous parts decide the outcome: power and connectivity in the actual physical environment, what happens when a device drops offline, how firmware gets updated once units are in the field, and securing devices that will outlive their warranty.
